Happy birthday? [jenna]

With the weekend finally approaching, Jason smiled to himself. He had been working at Bullworth for about two months now. And he rarely went out during the weekends, the students had always asked what he did on his weekends & his response was one of two things. Either it was 'not much' or 'graded some of the homework you did'. But today he decided to go out for once.

Jason had heard many people talk about this bar & grill place, which sounded fine to him. He didn't want to go to an actual bar. Those places were always bad news in more ways than once. But here he could get some food.

Making his way to the bar itself, Jason flashed the bar tender his ID. He knew he looked young and was fine with that. What he did not like was when people assumed he was younger & refused to believe that he was older. He had that happen a lot. Sitting at the bar, he watched as the bar tender placed a shot glass & a mug of beer in front of him. Quickly he downed the shot and began working on the beer.

This was what he needed; a nice semi-quiet evening to himself outside of his apartment. Jason was fine with the noise around him, he was use to being in crowded places. He was able to tune out the noise easily.

It was Jenna's birthday and finally, finally, she was 21. She was sure that a lot of people in her position had probably had a few drinks before and would have tons of friends to go out with to party on their big night, but none of that was true for her. Jenna grew up in a tiny farming community with a big family, and she'd gone to university with the determination to succeed and a stubborn streak a mile wide. She hadn't been living in Bullworth for very long. To put it in short: She had never had a sip of alcohol before and had no one to celebrate her birthday with.

And so, naturally, she dressed up and took herself out.

Her siblings, or at least the ones closest in age to her, probably would've laughed at her for it but Jenna didn't care. She had gotten too far in life to worry about that sort of thing. When she arrived at the bar, the first thing she did was to order a shot, just to get the night started, and also whatever drink the bartender recommended to her after thoroughly inspecting her ID. Jenna was in too good a mood to be bothered about being mistaken for someone younger. She had the figure of a woman and a bit of a baby face (and a height problem even in the heels she had put on). It was to be expected that they'd be a little confused.

Not as confused as she was, however, when she turned to see her student teacher not five feet away from her, sitting at the bar with a beer and an empty shot glass. "What're you doing here?"

Sipping his beer and occasionally looking at one of the televisions in the building playing, Jason paused when he heard somebody speak to him. Turning his attention to whoever was speaking to him, he froze. Not even five feet away was his co-worker Jenna. She was all dressed up and she looked stunning, making him feel extremely under dressed at a bar & grill. "Uh" he managed to say.

Holding up his beer, to show her that he was here to drink, Jason mentally shook his thoughts. "It's Friday night" he started, feeling a need to explain himself. "And I didn't want to spend all weekend hauled up in my apartment. So I came out for a drink." he explained to her, taking another sip of his drink.

"Why are you here?" he asked, curious to hear her response. He had already assumed that she was twenty-one. He just wanted to know why she was so dressed up. Was she all dressed up with no place to go, besides a bar?

As soon as the words left her mouth Jenna realised how stupid they sounded, but she was genuinely surprised to see Jason at the bar. After all, he was her student teacher... did he have a fake ID? That wouldn't go over well on his record. She would have to keep it between them and just warn him not to let it happen again. She couldn't let her professional career be on the line for his sake! She had to admit, she didn't think of him as the type to do that kind of thing, but here they were, and more importantly, here he was, drinking a beer as nonchalantly as if he was legally allowed to do so!

Feeling Jason's eyes on her, Jenna remembered what she was wearing and blushed slightly. She couldn't be seen like this with her student teacher, what was she thinking? This had been a bad idea from the start, she should have just worn something normal... Nonetheless, she raised an eyebrow at Jason's comment. "Look, I'm not your mum or anything but is it really a good idea to be out with a fake ID? If the school finds out you'll probably lose your job." she whispered to him, moving to lean against the counter a bit closer to him so that no one else would hear what she was saying.

When Jason asked why she was there too, it only made Jenna realise more how stupid she probably looked with no friends around and how embarrassing it was that she didn't know anyone well enough to invite them out for a birthday celebration with her. "I um..." she started sheepishly, downing her shot and making a face before continuing, "It's my birthday, so I came out. I know 21 is supposed to be big, but I don't really know anyone that well yet so I just came out on my own." she admitted.

Jason paused. Fake ID? Why did she think he had one? He was twenty-two years old, he was legally aloud to drink. Maybe he heard her wrong. It was totally possible that he had heard her wrong. He decided to drop the subject of the fake ID. "Okay" he said, hoping that it would end.

When she had said that it was her birthday, Jason smiled. "Well happy birthday!" he told her happily. Finishing his drink, he called a bartender over. "Hey!" he said when one finally came over to him. "Okay today is her birthday" he said, pointing at Jenna. "Her twenty-first" he added, smiling. "So if you can, make her a birthday cake shot" he said, ordering her a shot of birthday cake vodka that had sprinkles on the rim. "And I will have another beer and a shot with her." he added.

Once the drinks arrived, Jason smiled and handed her shot glass to her. "Okay, these are really good" he told her. "And we'll drink them on one, two, three" once he said three, Jason quickly drank his shot, some of the sprinkles were gone from the rim of the glass.

Originally, Jenna was going to smile and thank her colleague for the birthday wishes and then move on with the drink she'd been meaning to order, but then suddenly Jason was ordering her a birthday shot! "Thank y- hey, don't order me a drink with your illegal ID! Now you'll get me in trouble too!" her whispering was still quiet enough that the bartender wouldn't hear her, but there was a bit of panic on her face. Nonetheless, before she knew it, there was a shot in front of her with sprinkles and everything. Well, one more wouldn't hurt, would it? As long as no one found out... and besides, it was her birthday, so shouldn't she stop being so high strung and let loose a little bit, have some fun?

Jenna sighed and downed the shot on Jason's count, exhaling sharply after swallowing the vodka. It was definitely stronger than she anticipated, and her brain was already starting to feel a little fuzzy. Oh no, she was not going to be a lightweight, and if she was one, she certainly couldn't show it in front of her student teacher!

She looked confusedly at Jason, who seemed to know his way around the bar pretty well. "How many times have you snuck into a bar, Jason? You should be more careful, look, I didn't drink 'till now and I didn't miss out! I'm sure 21 isn't so far away for you...."

Jason froze as he listened to her. He was hearing her correctly. Jenna was assuming that he was under the legal drinking age. And he was going to have fun with it, he was going to keep acting as if he was underage until she realized that he was not.

He frowned and nodded his head at her. "You're right Jenna" he told her. Taking another sip of his drink, he looked back at. "Sneaking into bars? Well I've never done that before. I mean back at school, I mainly drank at parties." he told her, which was true. The only time he drank was at parties. Parties that his fraternity hosted or the sorority hosted. So he wasn't lying to her.

"But I have never snuck into a bar once in my life. Scouts honor!" he told her, finishing his beer. Jason had a decent tolerance for alcohol. During college he would drink to where he would black out, which was not the best thing to do. But he was a college kid. Grabbing his wallet, Jason was not able to keep up the facade anymore. "Jenna, take a look at my ID" he said, taking his ID out of his wallet and handing it to her. He couldn't take it anymore and began laughing to himself, waiting for her reaction.

Okay, so there was clearly something going on that Jenna didn't know about. Was she being punked? Was that still a thing? Maybe Ashton Kutcher was there, now that would be a nice birthday treat - wait, no, that definitely wasn't a thing anymore. Gosh, she must have looked really naive, there on her own for her twenty first birthday, dressed up, and... in front of her student teacher no less! How would she look him in the eye on the next work day? She looked young, and she was young for her position, but it was only because she graduated a few years early, but still... she didn't want to be treated differently because of it. That was something she'd always been adamant about and now she was giving her student teacher a big chance to do just that!

Gosh, all she'd wanted was a relaxing evening out for her birthday. Maybe she should have stayed at home, but that would have made drinking alone twice as bad, and at least in the bar she wasn't technically alone. Actually, now she wasn't alone for real since she was sitting with Jason - wait, when did she sit next to him again? This was bad, she couldn't do that...

He kept insisting that he didn't sneak into bars and she must have been giving him a pretty stupid look because eventually he pulled out his ID and showed it to her. It was real, and - wait, what did it say? "Wait, but-" she read it again and her face turned red. "Y-you're older than me?" she shouldn't have been that surprised, due to her own situation with being quite young for her job, but it embarrassed her to know that her student staff was almost two years older than she was.
